A chess tournament for youngsters who wish to compete in the game of Kings & Queens. American Open Scholastic Tournament provides junior talents to compete in more than 20 different categories. This tournament accommodates all levels from beginner to advance, and grades Kindergarten to 12th grade. Three skill level divisions - Booster, Junior Varsity, and Varsity - consist of grade and rating categories.
Booster is a non-rated tournament where players are divided by grade levels, while the Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity sections are grouped with consideration of the player's grade AND rating.
Junior Varsity (JV) consists of categories for players rated UNDER 1200.
Varsity has no rating limit and students play for two days, Saturday and Sunday.
